The Ronald McDonald House in Houston opened in 1981. It provides a home-like setting for children and their families undergoing cancer treatment at the Texas Medical Center.
Many of the families being treated at the Texas Medical Center have traveled long distances, endured extensive hospital stays, and the expenses of being away from home. Many families have spent days and nights in hospital lounges or hotels with no familiar support group. The needs of these families are met by the loving and home-like environment at the Ronald McDonald House. Here they can find support from other families who share common experiences dealing with the trauma of childhood illnesses.
Services are provided at the Holcombe House, inside the Texas Children’s Hospital, and recently inside Children’s Memorial Herman Hospital.
On an average year the Ronald McDonald House Houston provides over 16,000 nights of lodging to over 700 families.
The Mehta Family Foundation has been a contributor to this organization over the years and remains a proud supporter of their work.
